The way you consistently treat others says a lot about who you are.
YOU get to choose how you show up. YOU get to choose how you treat others.
When we hear the helpful thought by John Maxwell: “Place a 10 on everyone’s head.” It’s easy to lean in, love it and say “yes” to this concept. Yet, what’s not always easy is being consistently committed to “being that.” [To anticipate the best in the people we are coming in contact with; to decide in advance to see them as who they can become.]
Here’s a few ideas that will help propel you in this area …
Define your vision of influence. What do you see when you think of making a positive difference in the lives of others?
Define your personal values and guiding principles. Values are the bedrock of who you are and reflect the kind of influence you have on others.
Define your personal behavioral standards. Understand why showing up in this fashion matters to you.
Choose to not take things personally. Be hard to offend.
Choose to find one thing that makes you believe in and value the people you’re in conversation with.
Choose to: Travel the High Road, Always.
Choose to manage your thoughts and emotions. Don’t allow them to run amok.
Choose to ask questions that help you understand.
Choose to walk away from negative noise.
Reflection…
What makes me committed to placing a 10 on everyone’s head and treating them in this fashion?
How does this commitment add value to me and those I influence?
What energizes me about this?
The real test of your character is how you treat the people you don’t have to be nice to. – Lee Corso
