Often, the path to success isn't about adding more to your life but letting go of certain things. This process of elimination can bring you closer to the person you aspire to be. Whatever your definition of success, these 13 points are good reminders and a thinking platform for life. You can give up on some of them as soon as today, while it might take longer to give up on others.

  • Give up the unhealthy lifestyle. If you want to achieve anything in life, everything starts here. To take care of your health, keep these three in mind: quality sleep, a healthy diet, and physical activity. Take small steps daily; you will thank yourself one day.

  • Give up the short-term mindset. Successful people set long-term goals, and they know these aims are merely the result of short-term habits they must do daily. These healthy habits shouldn’t be something you do; they are something you embody.

  • Give up playing small. Playing small does not serve the world. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone, and as we let our lights shine, we unconsciously permit others to do the same. Unleash your true potential so the world will benefit from the giftedness entrusted to you!

  • Give up your excuses. Successful people know they are responsible for their lives, regardless of their starting point, weaknesses, and past failures. Own your life; no one else will.

  • Give up the fixed mindset. Successful people know this. They invest much time daily to develop a growth attitude and perspective.

  • Give up believing in the “magic bullet.” Successful people know that making minor, continuous daily improvements will compound over time, giving them their desired results.

  • Give up your perfectionism. Waiting for things to be right will cost you many opportunities.

  • Give up multitasking; it’s an illusion. You think you’re multitasking, but you are wasting time switching from one task to another. Successful people know this. Being fully present and committed to one task is indispensable.

  • Give up your need to control everything. Detach from the things you cannot control, focus on the ones you can, and know that often, the only thing within your control is your attitude.

  • Give up on saying yes to things that don’t support your authentic self and greatest aspirations. Successful people stay in alignment with who they are and wish to become.

  • Give up toxic people and stay away from negative people. The people you spend the most time with shape who you become. Look around you and see if you need to make any changes.

  • Give up your need to be liked. Successful people remain authentic and provide value daily, trusting that those meant to see your value will.

  • Give up wasting time. You owe it to yourself to see who you can become and how far you can go; however, to do it, you need to ditch meaningless time wasters and diligently learn how to control your focus and attention to make the most of your 24 hours within a day.

Intentionally Own It: As you think about this message, what growth do you get to move toward? What makes this matter, and what motivates you to pursue it? How can you count on yourself to consistently move in this direction? What positive impact will this growth have on your life and others when you do?
