C.S. Lewis states: We are who we believe we are.

The greatest indicator of anybody’s future is their self-image. How we see ourselves determines what you get out of life. We never outperform our self-image!

Research indicates that on average, people talk to themselves about 50,000 times each day. Unfortunately, this self-talk is 80 percent negative.

Through research, we also know that these thoughts have a powerful effect on us. They affect our attitudes, motivation, physiology, and even our biochemistry. Every cell in your body is affected by every thought you have.

To ensure you don’t consistently get entangled with negative thinking, let these positive ideas take root instead:

  • Guard your self talk. What we say about ourselves we tend to believe. What we believe, we tend to act. What we act, we tend to become.

  • Stop comparing yourself to others. Remember, nobody has it all together. Comparisons are an unneeded distraction to your own purpose and potential.

  • Genuinely add value to others – daily. Living with your heart open for the purpose of lifting others changes your inward lens.

  • Do the right thing even if it’s the hard thing. This courageous choice builds character.

  • Practice a small discipline daily in a specific area of your life. This habit builds self-respect.

  • Celebrate progress. We are pre-programmed to have the negative scream and the positive whisper. Disrupt that mindset by adopting this daily practice.

  • Embrace a positive vision based on what you value.

  • Take 100% responsibility for your life. By shifting your mindset, it empowers you to become accountable and diffuses the need to complain, blame or make excuses. You hold the power!

  • Move beyond your own self-limiting beliefs. One of the most powerful questions you can ask yourself is: “How do I hold myself back?”

How you see yourself is very important…it’s more important than what anyone else thinks of you. What commitment will you make to yourself to ensure you positively influence your self-image every day? How will this benefit you and those in your life?

The relationship you have with yourself will largely determine the type of relationships you’ll have with others.
