Attitude is contagious.

Regardless of what you say, people read and respond to your attitude at the end of the day. Here’s why: Influence is an inside job; what happens in you determines what happens through you. When you become the leader you ought to be on the inside, your influence will be what you want to be on the outside.

Leaders who know who they are from the inside lead well. They are secure and grounded while lifting those around them to higher levels. They own their impact; their influence is a ripple effect worth being around.

I applied for various jobs during college and secured a couple that fit my schedule. Even though I didn’t need another one, when I received a call about a position I had forgotten I applied for, I found myself agreeing to an interview because of the contagious attitude on the other side of the line. To my surprise, I left the interview as “hired!”

I ended up working for this manager throughout my college years, and I learned a lot from him. He taught me that my attitude is a habit I get to own, and how I choose to show up matters greatly. His passion modeled excellence and inspired me to realize that with every interaction, I could create an environment of raving fans, one customer at a time, based on my attitude. His example has stuck with me for life, and although I didn't "need" the position at the time, I realized that I did "need" the position after all.

No area in our lives will be tested more than our attitude. As leaders, we get to hold ourselves to higher standards that positively influence who we are and how we show up for those around us.

Intentionally Own It: Have you chosen which attitude you will have today? It sounds silly since you can’t see an attitude, but doing it before you start your day is essential. You might be surprised by how something so simple can make a profound difference!
