“True peace and contentment stand out like guiding lights in today’s chaotic, always-on world. According to Dave Ramsey, contentment isn't a destination; it's a way of living. It's about being deliberate with your attitude and spirit while walking through life."
In our world of comparison, instant gratification, and perfectly curated social media feeds, gratitude and contentment have become lost arts. If you aren’t intentional about cultivating a heart of thankfulness, it’s easy to get swept up in all the comparison madness, too.
But that’s no way to live.
So, instead of grabbing your phone and scrolling through everyone else’s highlight reel, why not embrace attitudes that will help shape your day with the right mindset?
- Gratitude—where you’ll recognize the blessings in your life. In a heart full of gratitude, there is no room for discontentment.
- Humility—where you’ll think of others more and yourself less. Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less (often).
- Contentment—where you’ll be happy for others and not want what they have. Contentment is found in a heart at peace.
Why does gratitude, humility, and contentment matter?
The thoughts we allow into our minds can impact our daily lives and our future. That’s why reminding ourselves of everything we must be grateful for is important.
When it comes to humility, you might wonder why anyone would need to be intentional about that. But here’s the thing—when we’re humble and focused on those around us, our entire attitude turns a corner.
Suddenly, we can view the world with a new perspective. Things become more apparent, and we can have sincere empathy and understanding for others rather than being motivated by what’s in it for us.
And you know what all that lays the foundation for? Contentment.
When you live with a heart full of gratitude and humility, you might notice you’re more content and happy. Why? Because you’re grateful for what you already have and can celebrate where others are, too. And once you’re living a content-filled life, believe me, you’ll want to stay there.
It’s time to kick comparisons to the curb.
If we’re honest with ourselves, we all want to stop playing the comparison game. After all, comparisons weigh us down. And watching other people live their lives through our phone screens can make us feel dissatisfied with our lives—for no good reason!
Intentionally Own It: Don’t waste time focusing on other people’s moments. Instead, write down your own so they don’t slip away. Living with gratitude and humility will shift your focus and put that comparison game to rest. And by doing so, you will gain, as we are told in Proverbs, “A harvest of peace is produced from a seed of contentment.”
