November often has us thinking of gratitude, but we can be thankful at any time—year-round! When we choose to be grateful all year, here’s what makes this intentional attitude matter.

  • Thankfulness benefits others. Everyone needs and desires appreciation. When we express gratitude for others, we meet their needs, uplift their spirits, and validate their worth.

  • Thankfulness fosters contentment. Our culture often suggests purchasing and doing more are the keys to enjoying life. However, that is a misconception. The true key to feeling joy and satisfaction in our lives is contentment. Distractions can make it challenging to appreciate what we currently have, but by practicing thankfulness, we can ignore these distractions and embrace a sense of contentment.

  • Thankfulness feels good. When we intentionally count our blessings and direct our hearts toward gratitude, we experience a positive feeling that radiates to those around us.

  • Thankfulness promotes health. By shifting our focus from what we lack to what we have, we consciously invite peace, patience, and health into our lives.

  • Thankfulness cultivates humility. There is a strong connection between humility and gratitude. When we choose to be thankful for our big and small blessings, we become more humble and gracious.

  • Thankfulness is contagious. Witnessing others express gratitude inspires us to do the same, creating ripple effects that benefit everyone.

  • Thankfulness generates positivity. When we practice gratitude, we naturally become more optimistic. Being intentionally thankful helps us focus on the good in ourselves, those around us, and our everyday lives.

  • Thankfulness encourages generosity. We’re more inclined to give to others when we appreciate what we have. Recognizing our blessings allows us to joyfully share and become a blessing in the lives of others.

  • Thankfulness enhances likability. People enjoy spending time with grateful, down-to-earth individuals because they are pleasant. Thankfulness helps others view us positively and makes them want to connect with us.

  • Thankfulness reflects a faith-infused character. Practicing gratitude allows us to live a life rich in faith and abundance. Thankfulness is a choice we can make every day of the year.

Intentionally Own It: Understanding that what we appreciate appreciates, how does this truth inspire you to continually spend time in grateful reflection? What benefits will this practice bring to your life and others when you do?
