What if someone followed you around with a video camera all day documenting your every move? Catching all your words, facial expressions, actions, and reactions on camera. And then what if someone packaged it all together and played it on some sort of reality TV show for all the world to see? What would be the glaring message of your life?

I’m convicted when thinking about this.

You see, if someone were to ask me: “What are you all about?” I would have some nice-sounding answers. But what actually happens during the strains of everyday life can sometimes betray my best intentions.

But what is the actual answer?

Everything we say and everything we do tells a story of who we really are. Our priorities reveal what we value. Our words reflect where we really stand within our heart. Our actions mirror our inner dialogue and beliefs

Your greatest message will be spoken by your life not your lips.

We all have moments where we need to check our attitude, tone, and motives to determine if we’re being true to ourselves and others.

When I stopped to “look under the hood of my influence,” I had some adjustments to make. What is important to me was a bit off track. What those closest to me were experiencing did not match what I value and picture as true leadership, happiness, or success.

I encourage you to “look under the hood of your influence” too. Ask yourself: “What am I all about?” “How am I really showing up in life?”

Dig in to find the real answers. When you do, everyone benefits. You included.

The unexamined life is not worth living; the unexamined leader is not worth following.
